John's four day weekend wasn't as long as we'd liked since we were so busy. Thursday night John was out late getting supplies for a sprinkler system which he has wanted to install in our yard since he built the house. Here in Florida grass is very hard to grow and if you don't constantly water it it dies over night. We dug trenches all over the yard Friday and Saturday worked on laying all the plumbing for the sprinkler heads. Becca stayed with us this weekend while Tim and Joel went to Tampa to a meeting. It was such a treat to have her with us. She helped out so much with Carlie and we got to hear all about their trip to Papua New Guinea.
Sunday was John's birthday and we celebrated by relaxing and having cake and ice cream. Then Sunday night we put Carlie to bed and John decided he wanted to work on the sprinkler system through the night since the sun is so relentless during the day and also Carlie will sleep and we won't have to watch her all the time. We got flashlights and John wore his head lamp and we set to work. We got a lot done in a little amount of time. You have so much more energy when it's cool.
Monday was Memorial Day and we had very little left to do on the sprinklers before we could fill in all the trenches and try it out. By early afternoon we were standing together on the front lawn watching the sprinkler heads rise up and water the our very dry grass. What a beautiful site! The rest of the afternoon relaxed and in the evening John took us down to the Veteran Memorial by the board walk and we walked around and spent some time thinking on the price of freedom. Carlie was asleep so she didn't get her history lesson, maybe next year.
